Dragon roll is one a type of sushi. But what exactly is sushi? Well, sushi is a roll made of mainly vinegared rice and topped with fish or any other seafood. Sashimi is often mistaken as sushi, however sashimi is quite different from sushi. Sliced raw seafood served with wasabi paste or soy sauce is known as sashimi. There are not many types of sashimis, but there are many sushi types, to be precise there are seven types of sushi viz. Nigirizushi Makizushi, Oshizushi, Inarizushi, Sukeroku, Chirashizushi and Narezushi.
Wondering what which type dragon roll belongs to? Well, dragon roll does not belong to any of the above mentioned types. Dragon roll belongs to the eighth type of sushi, the western-style sushi. As the name suggests, western-style sushis are the different types of sushis made in countries apart from Japan, especially North America. There are many types of western-style sushis, out of which one is the dragon roll, also known as caterpillar roll. It is called so because it looks exactly like a caterpillar and dragon roll because it is wrapped in green layers of avocado and cucumber, which resemble a dragon’s scales.
